IGC WINS ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD
Qld Golf Industry Awards Council
This award is recognition of the initiatives undertaken by IGC & the Course Superintendent, with regard to how daily work on the course is carried out & the resultant impacts on the environment.
The use of bio diesel is an initiative that constitutes a new & unique way of reducing dependence on fossil fuels in addition to being cheaper than regular diesel, cleaner for the environment, storage facility & machinery while having nil to negligible emissions. Bio diesel also re-cycles a by-product that would otherwise have to be disposed of.
This award is a feather in the cap of all concerned here at Indooroopilly & both members & staff can be rightly proud of our Club.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY: We are currently trialling the use of Biodiesel in some of our mowers. Biodiesel is a cheaper, cleaner fuel which improves engine performance while helping our environment. In 2007 we planted 2000 trees and 1000 plants (676 trees will absorb the carbon emissions of our course maintenance fleet)
We collect 156,000 litres/year of rainwater from the cart shed roof to wash carts
Since L2 restrictions we have reduced water consumption by 44000L/day
We use 300 millionL/yr of treated effluent water on our golf courses
We are committed to adding to our tree population over the next 5 yrs |
